Today was our “fun day.” (In case you are unaware, Sheri builds a day of fun on each of these trips.) We woke really early to get on the road to make it to an old retired coal mine. We’d gotten directions from Pastor Cab but it would seem that our idea of directions and theirs is a bit different. “It’s really easy, just head down this road and turn left at the fork, veer right just past the burnt out building, the one next to the stump.” Well we passed the fork once, found it but missed the building and after finding that didn’t even notice the stump. It might have been a little easier if he had said take Highway 53 to Highway 57, but if it’s anything I’ve learned from these trips, it’s that our way isn’t everyone’s way. Once we finally made it to the coal mine we took a little mining car in to the mine. The mine operated for 100 years before it was shut down. It was pretty interesting. We learned the conditions that miners had to work in before modern technology and laws. Kind of unpleasant. After the mine we headed to the water park for the rest of the afternoon. It was a nice break from all the work, mud and heat. For the rest of the night the hearts tourney continued and its nice to see everyone getting along.
