Today we bid safe journey to Scott, Becca and Doug as they head to Kampala and home. We will be following them very shortly and it is amazing to me that the trip is almost over. After their van took off we piled in to the bus and headed out to FDNC for more work. The building is in it’s final stages so work is sporadic. We dug a trench around the foundation that will end up being a little cement porch thing that surrounds the entire dorm and participated in a few brick lines. The workers have begun making the rafters that will hold up the room and now I am not sure we will actually get to see it complete before we leave. That is not to say that the building won’t be completed, we just may not be here to see it.
We worked until after lunch and then about half of us went into the art room to begin the batiking class. We did this in 2007 and the local artist demonstrated how the batiks are made and then everyone is given a chance to make their own. Batiking involveswaxing cloth, ironing out the way, finding a stencil or design that you like and painting the black on, then you fill in to colors you like, add a black frame and then add gold touches. The class took the remainder of the afternoon. Following we headed back to the hotel for dinner and discussion.
