We’re Famous!

The other day a reporter form the local Mbale newspaper, the Daily Monitor came to visit the worksite. He wrote an article and took a picture of us working that ran in the paper. There is a picture of Wendy and Lizzy sifting sand and I am shoveling sand into the sifter with a brick line behind us. We are trying to get a bunch of copies to bring home. Very cool. Here is the article.

Needy Children to Get Hostel by David Mafabi – Mbale

Orphans and vulnerable children from Natondome village, Mbale, will soon get a dormitory, thanks to the generosity of a group of Christians from Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church in Denver, Colorado, US.

The Christians have started the construction of a boys dormitory worth $18,000.

Led by the Rev. Sheri Fry, the Christians are in partnership with the Foundations for the Development of Needy Communities (FDNC), a local charity involved in rehabilitating former street childre, orphans and needy children in Easter Uganda.

The hostel which will accomodate about 150 needy children at the FDNC Natondome Vocational Training Institute is being constructed with funds raised by Christians in the Presbyterian Church in Denver.

Rev. Fry said their church is committed to providing vocational skills to vulnerable children in rural communities to empower them with skills for self-sustenance.

“We are committed to providing vocational skills to orphans and other needy children in Uganda to enable them to get transformed from being job seekers to job makers to develop their own communities,” said Rev. Fry.

FDNC executive director Sam Watulatsu said the hostel will accomodate 150 boys every year and reduce on the long distances that many students walk to attain polytechnic skills, adding that the facility will also serve as an income generating project.”
