Today we woke and headed to the church that Sam, his mom and his family are members of. It was a much smaller church than the one we attended last Sunday. We were a bit late so we walked arrived in the middle of the service and of course they saved the front 4 benches for us so we interrupted the service. Even though the service/sermon thingy was in English I didn’t really understand what the guy was saying (he was a lay person giving a sermon about fallen men as far as I can tell.) Following the service we had to stand in a receiving line and shook hands with nearly the entire congregation. After that we headed to the little school that seemed to be attached to the church for morning tea and just as we were about to leave they asked us to come and be welcomed by the second service that is entirely in Liguisu. Of course I understood nothing of this service and we had to stand up in the front and introduce ourselves. This means I have been to 4 services in 3 weeks….that is a record for me.
We headed back to the hotel for a few minutes to change out of our church clothes and then headed to Betty’s house for lunch. She went out of her way and her and her family (Daisy is her daughter…oh Betty is a chairperson of FDNC) made a huge amount of food. There was a pasta salad thing, some cucumbers and peppers, liver, fish (talapia), french fry things. It was very good.
Then we were off for a driving tour loop through the foothills of Mount Elgon (Mount Elgon is a giant mountain that separates Kenya and Uganda. The mountain areas are so green and beautiful. It was nice to see some of the mountain communities too.
For dinner we headed to the Mbale Resort Hotel and invited some of the members of FDNC. Our group was pretty excited to order some food off of the menu. I had chicken fried rice…it was delicious.
Off to bed. Goodnight.
